About the Author
Jason Siff has been teaching meditation for twenty years, starting when he was a Theravada Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka. He left the Buddhist Order in 1990 and returned to the United States, where he continued teaching meditation, further developing his particular approach to meditation practice, which is called “Recollective Awareness Meditation.” In 1996 he co-founded the Skillful Meditation Project as its primary teacher, and continues to function as the head teacher and the director of the organization. The website for the Skillful Meditation Project is: www.skillfulmeditation.org
Jason sees fiction writing as a way to present various experiential aspects of meditation, and has written a few novels and stories, which he reads as bed-time stories at retreats. “Seeking Nibbana in Sri Lanka” is one such bedtime story, parts of which have been read at Jason’s retreats since 1999, when he wrote the first section of the novel. Many people who have heard this story read aloud have found it as helpful as the talks and the instructions on a retreat.
His first published novel, “King Bimbisara’s Chronicler,” was published by Sarvodaya Vishwa Lekha in Sri Lanka in 2001. It is the story of a fictional chronicler who followed the Buddha around and memorized his words and deeds. It was nominated for the IMPAC literary award.
